We have started production again on
Tuesday 14th April, with limited staffing levels, and have in place procedures
ensuring we adhere to social distancing throughout the workshop whilst
following strong hygiene & cleaning practices. Our employees & their
families remain our top priority.

to 17:00 Monday to Thursday – 08:00 to 16:00 Fridays
note only one person at a time within the trade counter reception area
via account and or card payment only (No cash or cheques accepted at this time)

LCT 7074 is the last surviving landing craft in the UK. ML (UK) are proud to be restoring LCT to her former 1944 configuration where she is due to be displayed at the D DAY Museum in Southsea when works are completed in Spring 2020.
We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded the contract to undertake essential conservation work to iconic warship HMS Warrior as part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project. ML (UK) will replace the bulwarks and water bar on both sides of the upper deck which have become dangerously deteriorated. This complex and skilled work will be undertaken in sections over the next two years, and will safeguard both the ship and ongoing public access.
The National Museum of the Royal Navy appointed ML (UK) Ltd to undertake the restoration of HMS M.33, the only surviving ship from the World War One Gallipoli campaign. This exciting National Lottery funded heritage project conserved and restored M.33 in time for her centenary in 2015.
HMS M.33 was built in 1915 on the orders of the First Lord of the Admiralty, Winston Churchill. She was a floating gun platform designed to bombard coastal positions from the sea. Her first active operation was the support of the British landings at Suvla during the Battle of Gallipoli in August 1915. She remained stationed at Gallipoli until the evacuation in January 1916. She served in the Mediterranean for the remainder of the War and was involved in the seizure of the Greek fleet at Salamis Bay in 1916. After the War, M.33 was sent to Murmansk in Russia to relieve the North Russian Expeditionary Force before returning to Portsmouth to become a mine-laying training ship.
ML (UK) who have already completed successful restoration of HMS Alliance, undertook structural steelwork repairs and preservation works as well as installing an access walkways system allowing the public onboard for the very first time, making HMS M.33 the only warship from WWI open to visitors.
M.33 was unveiled in August 2015 as part of a day of commemorations at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard and is already proving to be a highly popular public attraction. ML (UK) is delighted to have played a key role in restoring HMS M.33 to her former glory.
A major milestone in modernising Portsmouth Naval Base has been met with the opening of the recently refurbished 15 Dock Centre of Specialisation, the first of four new centres within the base for future support to Royal Navy ships for global operations.
The new facility, opened by Rear Admiral Ian Jess, will be used for the upkeep and maintenance of Type 45 Destroyers and Type 23 Frigates and marks the start of a 15 year transformation programme to modernise Portsmouth Naval Base, including preparations for the Royal Navy’s two new Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers.
The arrival of HMS Queen Elizabeth by early 2017 has provided a catalyst for investment in the infrastructure of Portsmouth Naval Base. Investment requirements over the next 15 years have been captured within the ‘Portsmouth 2030 Programme’ which details a future vision for Portsmouth Naval Base.
The centres of specialisation have been the product of work undertaken by BAE Systems Maritime Services working in partnership with the Naval Base Command Portsmouth (NBCP) team, to capture infrastructure and facility requirements for both current and future classes of ship.
The new 15 Dock Centre of Specialisation will provide improved accommodation and amenities for Royal Navy and BAE Systems staff, new co-located storage facilities and an upgraded dock, complete with a new mobile harbour crane and a refurbished caisson. Re-modelling of the facility has also provided the opportunity to reduce Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) risks, by separating staff from plant and machinery, and controlling access to the site during operations.
Machinery and repair work she will also be fitted with the state-of-the-art Artisan radar. This work alone involves a significant number of BAE Systems workers across a 14 month refit period. The opening of the refurbished 15 Dock is a key milestone for the Naval Base as we count down the days to the arrival of the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
Rear Admiral Ian Jess, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Support) said: “Across all three of our Naval Bases we are investing in facilities to support a modern Navy deployed on operations throughout the world. I am therefore delighted to open the new 15 Dock complex in Portsmouth today which further demonstrates the increased investment we are providing to our Naval Bases and commitment to their future.”
James Davis, Naval Base Services Director for BAE Systems Maritime Services said: “Creating Centres of Specialisation for delivery of Ship Support represents a key element of the Portsmouth 2030 programme. This is an example of what we mean when we say that we’re ‘building a modern naval base for a modern navy’. Completing the refurbishment and upgrade of ‘15 Dock and 2 Complex’, in time for delivery of HMS Westminster’s Upkeep Project, signifies the start of this exciting programme.”
As well as the 15 Dock facilities, under the transformation programme there will be three other Centres of Specialisation created and developed on the naval base which will be for the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, Fleet Time Engineering for Type 45 Destroyers and Type 23 Frigates and an improved Mine Counter Measures complex.
For the Aircraft Carriers facility, significant investment is being made in the Western area of the naval base. This ranges from jetty improvements and power upgrades to dredging and navigation aids which will support the new vessels. In addition to refurbishing and upgrading Locks, Docks and Jetties, the Centres of Specialisation programme will includes the provision of upgraded accommodation, catering facilities and localised sports facilities.
These significant levels of investment coming into Portsmouth Naval Base are underpinned by the recently signed MSDF (Maritime Support Delivery Framework) contract, a £600 million contract to manage Portsmouth Naval Base and support global Royal Navy operations for the next five years. This partnering agreement between BAE Systems, the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence provides the potential to deliver significant benefits to the Ministry of Defence through the incorporation of contract enhancements for reduced cost and improved efficiencies and performance whilst maintaining operational availability.
Earlier in the spring this year we received an order for the manufacture and delivery of a 19.0 metre access walkway. As the brow was required to be installed via sea going plant due to its location (access walkway to floating pontoons in Portsmouth Harbour) we delivered it through our neighbours (MMD Shipping) quay area which is directly adjacent to our fabrication shop. This makes life so easy for delivering over-sized fabrications for the marina sectors.
We were delighted to see the official reopening of ‘HMS Alliance’ to the general public last week with Martin Hobson (Project Director) attending the re-opening ceremony. He said it was a pleasure to see how much all the staff and submarine veterans appreciated the effort all involved had taken. Everyone should be very proud of what has been achieved for the future of the boat and museum.

We have recently completed the restoration of HMS Alliance a 1945 submarine at the Royal Naval Submarine museum in Gosport.
This project has been a long running project for us, which has been very rewarding, in we have managed to restore the exterior of boat to her former glory for many generations to come making her a long term display for the future of the museum as well as being a fitting memorial for the thousands of submariners who lost their lives.
ML UK Ltd has recently completed the relocation of HMS Bristol at whale Island, Portsmouth for Portsmouth International Ferry Port.
This project required the construction of two new dolphin structures for HMS Bristol to more against and with pedestrian walkway for access to the new positioned training ship. A challenging piling project, which was on time and on budget.
